Comments are closed  To celebrate the launch of FRANK READE, authors Paul Guinan and Anina Bennett are throwing parties on three consecutive Wednesdays in February, at three Portland comic book stores. Each will have a different theme—Land, Sea, and Air—the three realms Frank Reade explores in his electric vehicles.
On display will be the three model vehicles Guinan himself built for the Frank Reade book, which are rarely shown in public. Attendees will have a chance to talk with the authors and get books signed, as well as meet local steampunks (Land), pirates (Sea), and superheroes (Air). There will be cosplay performances!
BONUS: There’s a prize at the grand finale event! The first ten adventurers who make it to all three events and get their “Land, Sea, and Air” passports stamped will receive a print of an original Frank Reade engraving signed by both authors, plus custom-stamped Frank Reade chocolate “gold coins.”

 Chocolate gold coins with Frank Reade's likeness will be given to the first ten travelers who turn in their passports that were stamped at all three parties.

Comments are closed  Before cable or the intertubes, a thing called “broadcast television” dominated video viewing. Since Boilerplate is retro, it’s appropriate that the first major video interview with the Victorian robot’s creator Paul Guinan, and co-author Anina Bennett, was televised over the airwaves–old school! Outlook Portland with Rick Emerson is a Sunday morning chat show on channel 32, and the YouTube version is now available for those who weren’t up early enough or who live outside the broadcast area. It’s in four segments, each about six minutes, 24 minutes total. Don’t miss the end, where we surprise the host with a gift and leave him nearly speechless.

Comments are closed Things From Another World is having an art opening and book preview with Paul Guinan and Anina Bennett, who will be special guests at this year’s Comic-Con International. The opening is at TFAW’s Hollywood location on June 24 from 7 to 10 pm. There will be free food, beer, and wine.
The art show will feature exclusive editions of prints created especially for this event, some never publicly shown, and a rare display of toys and artifacts from Boilerplate: History’s Mechanical Marvel, which was recently optioned by J.J. Abrams (Star Trek, Lost). The exhibit will also include a sneak preview of artwork from Paul and Anina’s upcoming book, Frank Reade: Adventures in the Age of Invention, the chronicle of a family of steampunk inventors. Paul will present the first public showing of an elaborate model of Frank Reade’s electric battle-wagon, the Valiant, which he built for the new book.
