OK, Boilerplate IS steampunk…

Boilerplate’s creator Paul Guinan sees the soon to be released BP coffee-table book as history–with one fictional element, a robot. Technically this makes it science-fiction. However, Paul doesn’t necessarily think of it as steampunk, because of the lack of goggles, gears, airships, and other such tropes.
Film In Focus not only nails Boilerplate as steampunk, but as a modern “Edisonade.”
Interestingly the article describes Boilerplate as “innocent,” despite such subject matter as mechanized warfare, imperialism, racism, women’s suffrage, and child labor.

Boilerplate loved by Powell’s Books

Review copies of Paul Guinan’s BOILERPLATE book are getting rave reviews. The latest is from Erik Litz, Powells Books:

“This highly unique and visually stunning piece of work, which has found it’s way to book form, is a priceless piece of originality. Some other form of media would be amiss to not see this translated towards television or film. Both ‘old world’ and ‘high tech’ merge to birth a new hero for us all. Exquisite in execution and delivery…..ahh, there are still books, after all my years, that can inspire me so. My own words cannot do it justice. One can’t be told what BOILERPLATE is, one must experience it.”
