As of 2011, Periscope Studio boasts two dozen talented artists and writers all tucked into one busy downtown office suite. Our membership list has been closed for years, but we’re proud to announce that we’ve brought aboard one of the most talented emerging cartoonists in Portland: Natalie “Tally” Nourigat.
Tally is already known in the comics and illustration world for her beautiful and distinctive work. Her lush linework, unique manga-inflected style and sprightly sense for gesture and composition make her art a definite standout, and her magnificently professional attitude makes her a pleasure to work with. We’ve been huge fans since we met her as a student in 2008, when it was immediately clear that she was destined for big things.
Fresh on the professional scene, Tally is already hard at work providing art for two graphic novels, in addition to keeping up with her burgeoning portfolio of illustrations and self-authored comics (including autobio webcomic Between Gears chronicling her last year of university). We look forward to her classing up the joint in 2011!
Allow Tally to bring a little sophistication into your own life by checking out her work at RandomProduction.com or by contacting her at Tally@farbeyond.com, and join us in welcoming her to Periscope Studio.

Oregon Public Broadcasting has put the entire Art Beat segment featuring Periscope Studio online. It focuses on Erika Moen and Ron Randall, but just about everyone gets camera time. It’s a fine, accurate picture of the place, and we couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. Big thanks to Katrina Sarson for making it happen.

Courtesy of Jason Leivian, proprietor of the lovely Portland establishment Floating World Comics, Family Man will have a release and signing party on-site! It will be on July 15th from 5 to 8pm. So you Portland-area folk don’t need to stalk me or buy scalped tickets to San Diego just to get my scrawl on the inside cover of your copy of Family Man.
I’ve never done a solo event before, but I figure this book deserves it – especially since you, my wonderful crazy readers, made it possible. Floating World is one of my favorite places in Portland, period, and its shelves are a testament to the very best that comics can offer. I’m very honored to drag this book into the world through their doors!

From 6-8 pm, Floating World Comics is hosting Graham Annable, celebrating the release of his new Grickle book.
Then, jump on the MAX for a short ride to the Hollywood transit station, because from 8-10 pm, Things from Another World will have Jeff Parker and Steve Lieber signing their just-released UNDERGROUND trade paperback. Steve will be doing free sketches in your copy of the book. More importantly, there will also be free beer and free food. Free sketches. Free beer. Free food. Does it GET better than that? No.
